The Sufficiency of Christ: Jesus Enough?

The Sufficiency of Christ: Is Jesus Enough?

In a world that tells us to achieve more, earn more, and be more, we often find ourselves asking: Is Jesus enough? It’s a question that challenges our faith and reveals where we place our trust.
The early church wrestled with this same issue. In Acts, some taught that Gentile believers needed to follow Jewish customs to be saved. But Paul, Barnabas, and Peter pushed back, affirming that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone — not by adding anything to the gospel.
We still face this temptation today. Whether it's religious rules, good works, or personal success, we often feel we need to add something to Jesus. But Scripture reminds us: it’s not our efforts that make us right with God — it's our humble dependence on His mercy.
Jesus told a parable of a Pharisee and a tax collector. The Pharisee boasted in his righteousness; the tax collector simply cried, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” And Jesus said he was the one made right with God. This is the heart of the gospel.
The message of the cross may seem foolish to the world, but to those who believe, it is the power of God. Christ is enough — in our strength and in our weakness, in seasons of joy and times of trial.
Whether we’re standing tall or barely hanging on, His grace is sufficient. Let us stop striving for worth and instead rest in the finished work of Christ. Our obedience flows not from pressure, but from love and gratitude.
So when life feels uncertain, and we’re tempted to measure our faith by our performance, let’s return to this truth: Jesus is enough. In Him, we have everything we need.
