Finding Freedom in Faith
Moving On: Finding Freedom in Faith
Greetings from New Life Open Bible Church, A Christian Church in San Jacinto, CA
From a distance, the vast desert may seem like an endless expanse of the same golden sand, but appearances can be deceiving. Beneath the surface lies quicksand—earth saturated with water, capable of trapping anyone who steps into it. A person caught in quicksand cannot escape at will. The more they struggle, the deeper they sink. Likewise, many individuals may feel trapped by their life circumstances, as though they are sinking in quicksand. Though they yearn to live a different life, they feel bound and helpless. In such a state, they might believe their fate is sealed, unable to break free from the fear, anger, or sorrow that weighs them down.
However, there is a stark contrast to this feeling of being trapped. In the book of Exodus, we encounter Moses, who, while walking in the wilderness, notices a bush that burns without being consumed. Intrigued, he approaches it, only to be told by God to remove his sandals because the ground he stood on was holy (Exodus 3:5). By obeying, Moses not only received a divine encounter but also became known as a friend of God (Exodus 33:11).
In one scenario, a person is stuck, weighed down by life's circumstances, unable to move forward. In the other, a person is free yet chooses to remain in a place where they can experience God’s presence, embracing the life their Creator has given them. This freedom is exemplified in the life of the Apostle Paul. In Acts 14:19-23, we see Paul, who had been violently attacked, stoned, and left for dead. Despite these life-threatening circumstances, Paul refused to remain trapped by his past suffering or the fear of his enemies. He was free—free to live, to move forward, and to preach the gospel.
May the Lord use these examples to remind us that true freedom is found only in Christ, and that, despite life’s trials, we can find peace and purpose in His presence.
